WORD STRESS 1

Basic facts:
- A word only has one stress
- Vowels stress, not consonants.

Word stress rules:
(But be careful when using these rules since there are many exceptions based on each word's origins or accents)

Stress on first syllable:
Two-syllable ADJECTIVES & NOUNS:
Famous (adj), pretty (adj), ugly (adj), hunger (n), anger (n), picture (n).
(Exceptions: borrow, answer, murder, etc.)

Stress on last syllable:
Two-syllable VERBS:
Accuse ( v), maintain (v), relax (v), obey (v).
