READING TESTS STRATEGIES
READ THE QUESTIONS FIRST: in order to identify information quickly, read questions first. If you read the passage first, you will have to spend time scanning for information again after you have had a look at the questions.
SCAN AND SKIM: read quickly, you do not have to read every word. Just look for key words and main ideas.
UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION: make sure you do, because there have been a lot of situations when you get the wrong idea of the questions and end up having the wrong answers.
WATCH OUT FOR KEY WORDS: words like "all", "never", "always", etc. are often key words of TRUE/FALSE questions. These words often means the answer is likely to be FALSE.
BE INFORMATIVE BUT NOT TOO LONG: when the answer is too long, there might be some information that are redundant or irrelevant.
HAVE A RANGE OF WORDS AND PHRASES: you need this in case the teacher decides to have a fill-in-the-blank reading questions. You should learn carefully forms of words, phrases that stick to those words, and common idioms.
Today i met a question saying: what is the diference between "what's the point in" and "what's the point of"?
ReplyDeleteCan you post an essay to discuss that question?
